"Great is Thy Faithfulness"

Do these words sound familiar? They are from an old, favorite hymn that was written by Thomas O. Chisholm. This title was taken from a verse in  Lamentations. “ They [Mercies] are new every morning: great is they faithfulness” Lam. 3:23.  This song makes me think of the season that is just around the corner for us now, spring.

Springtime is one of my favorite times of the year. I love to see the snow start to melt away with the first tinges of spring warmth in the air. The birds start to whistle their beautiful tunes again.  Plants that have been dormant over the winter start to break forth in new life. Trees start to bud out their new leaves. Grass that was brown starts to turn a bright green. The world  seems fresh and clean after a long, dirty winter.

While we are still in the season of Winter, how do we know that we will again see these beautiful things that I described in the paragraph above.? We can look back over time to every springtime since the beginning of time and see that every Spring these things have happened. If Jesus doesn’t come back before March 22, 2013 we can rest assure that we will again see the beautiful life that Spring brings to us.  God made this promise to Noah, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” Gen. 8:22

The seasons changing are just one example of the faithfulness of God. Each new day, each breath we take, is a reminder of the faithfulness of God.

We live in a fast paced world where things are always changing. Sometimes this causes us to be uncertain about the future and what it may bring into our lives.  In a world of unrest, confusion and change there is one thing that will always be the same…. God is still on His throne and is still faithful and true to his promises.
